Review The Huguang Guild Hall is a beautifully restored historic opera house dating back to 1807. In 1912 Dr Sun Yat-sen established the Kuomintang here in 1912. There is a small museum at the entrance showing photos of famous performers as well as robes and costumes (RMB 10). Don't expect a western style opera, and keep an open mind if you want to experience Chinese Opera. It has absolutely no connection to opera in the western sense. You are entering the depths of traditional Chinese culture. If you want get more of an idea about what you will see, have a look at some Peking Opera videos on YouTube.
