Shanghai Museum is a world class museum designed by Xing Tonghe, a famous Shanghesse architect. It cost US$50 million dollars and opened in 1996. It contains eleven galleries and three exhibition halls, displaying paintings, furniture, calligraphy, coins, ceramics, jade, sculptures, minority race artifacts and furniture. It is located in People's Square and is open Sunday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m and on Saturday's from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
